LLM visibility tools
LLM visibility tools ask large language models your buyers’ questions and record whether your brand is named or cited, where, and next to which rivals. Placton reads the live answers of ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Perplexity and Grok, not what a model remembers from training, and shows your first results from all five on day one.

Why LLM visibility tools should read live answers, not training data
A tracker can ask a model about your brand in two ways, and the two results are not comparable.
What it learned in training
The model on its own
- Answers from what it learned before its training cut-off date.
- Stays the same until a new model version ships.
- Rarely shows its sources, so there is little to trace or fix.
- Knows nothing you published after the cut-off.
What Placton measures
The model with live web search
- Searches the web first, then writes from the pages it found.
- Can change from one week to the next as those pages change.
- Cites its sources, so you can see which pages earned the mention.
- Can draw on a page published last week, once its search finds it.
Placton asks all five with web search on, in the country and language of your workspace, and sends each prompt exactly as written, without your brand name. The answer it keeps is the kind a buyer can get today, and when it changes you can trace the change to the pages behind it. For ChatGPT, we also explain why we read chatgpt.com instead of the API.
What Placton does not measure: what a model says from its training alone, and any model outside these five, such as the Gemini app, Meta AI, Llama, DeepSeek or Mistral. If a tool promises to read a model’s memory, ask how it does it.
LLM tracker: how Placton reads each model
Five models, five different sources. This is where each answer comes from, which search it relies on and how often Placton collects it, on paid plans and in the free trial.

| Model | Where the answer comes from | Web search | Paid plans | Free trial | Kept with each answer |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPTOpenAI | chatgpt.com, logged out, as a first-time visitor sees it | ChatGPT’s own web search | Every day* | Day one, then daily while you keep visiting your dashboard | The full answer, the pages it cites and the searches ChatGPT ran |
| Google AI OverviewsGoogle | The AI Overview at the top of real Google results (desktop) | Google Search itself | Every day | Day one, then daily while you keep visiting your dashboard | The full Overview and its source links; a search without one is logged as “no answer” |
| ClaudeAnthropic | Claude, asked through its API | A web search tool Placton connects | Every week | Once, at sign-up | The full answer and the pages it cites |
| PerplexityPerplexity | Perplexity, asked through its API | Perplexity’s own search engine | Every week | Once, at sign-up | The full answer and the pages it cites |
| GrokxAI | Grok, asked through its API | A web search tool Placton connects | Every week | Once, at sign-up | The full answer and the pages it cites |
Every model is asked in your workspace’s country and language, chosen from 40 countries and 7 languages. Daily or weekly is a trade-off between cost and noise; our guide explains how often to measure and how many answers a real change needs. More on tracking Google AI Overviews, including searches where Google shows none.
* On paid plans. ChatGPT is read on chatgpt.com in every country Placton tracks except Venezuela and Puerto Rico, where it is asked weekly through its API.
LLM rank tracker: where you stand in each model
Each model runs its own searches and writes its own summary, so the brands, their order and the sources change from one to the next. One blended number would hide where you win and where you are missing.
Visibility in each model. The share of each model’s answers that name or cite you, shown for you and for every competitor you follow (up to 25).
Your rank in the answer. When an answer names you, Placton records your place in its list of brands and shows your average position next to each rival’s.
One model at a time. Filter answers, mentions and cited sources by platform to read what a single model says and which pages it trusts.
A fair overall score. Every model weighs the same in your overall visibility, so the two read daily do not drown out the three read weekly.
- The full list of what to look for is in what an AI visibility tracker should show you, and the sources side in AI citation tracking.
LLM SEO tools: SEO for LLMs, not LLMs for SEO
Search for an LLM SEO tool and you will find two kinds of product under the same name. Only one of them tells you what language models say about you.
LLMs for SEO
A language model does SEO work for you: it drafts articles and meta descriptions, groups keywords and suggests topics. It saves time on work you already do for Google, and it says nothing about how ChatGPT or Perplexity answer when a buyer asks about your category.
SEO for LLMs
The work of getting language models to find, trust and recommend your brand. It starts with two checks, your site and the answers, and a short list of what to change. That is what Placton does. It does not draft pages; if a model writes them for you, a tracker is how you learn whether they get cited.
- 1
Can language models read your site?
The 18-point audit reads your home page, robots.txt, sitemap and llms.txt: whether GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended may come in, whether your text loads without JavaScript, and what your structured data says about you.
- 2
Do they name or cite you?
Your prompts go to all five models with web search on, and each answer is checked for your brand, your pages, your place in the list and the rivals next to you.
- 3
What should you change next?
Weekly insights point to the page, source or rival behind a number, such as “You are mentioned, but your website is not the source” or “Some sources recommend your competitors and not you”.
What tends to move the answers, from crawler access to the third-party pages models cite, is in our notes on how to show up in AI search.

Included: in the plan’s price. If picked: one of the engines you choose within the plan’s limit. Not listed: not on the vendor’s page when we checked it. LLMrefs lists Grok in the pricing table on its home page (opens in a new tab); its pricing page (opens in a new tab) names it only in the FAQ. When another tool fits better
Placton is not the right answer for everyone. Pick another tool if you need one of these; their details come from each vendor’s website, checked on October 19, 2026 and October 24, 2026.
You want Gemini, AI Mode or Copilot answers
Placton tracks none of them. LLM Pulse (opens in a new tab) includes Gemini and AI Mode in its Starter plan, and Ahrefs Brand Radar (opens in a new tab) covers Gemini, AI Mode and Copilot from $50 a month.
You track DeepSeek or Meta AI
Placton covers five models and you cannot add more. LLMrefs (opens in a new tab) lists DeepSeek and Meta AI on its All in One plan, refreshed weekly, and Trakkr (opens in a new tab) lists both on Growth, refreshed daily.
You want every model checked daily
Claude, Perplexity and Grok are weekly in Placton. Trakkr Growth (opens in a new tab) runs 50 prompts every day on 8 models, those three included.
You want a model’s answer without search
Placton always asks with web search on and does not report what a model says from its training alone. To test that, ask the model through its own API with search turned off.
You need an API or CSV files
Placton has neither. Every Peec AI (opens in a new tab) plan comes with custom CSV exports, and its Pro plan ($245/mo) adds an API.
You want the visits LLMs send you
Placton reads what the answers say, not the traffic behind them. GA4 shows sessions that come from AI assistants at no cost; our guide covers what the free reports can and cannot tell you.
Questions about LLM visibility tracking
About Placton itself? Read the full FAQs or see every plan and price.
What are LLM visibility tools?
Software that sends the questions your buyers ask to large language models such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Grok on a schedule, keeps every answer and measures how often your brand is named or cited, in what position, with what tone and next to which competitors. They are also called LLM trackers or LLM visibility trackers.
Is an LLM rank tracker different from an LLM tracker?
Mostly in focus. An LLM rank tracker looks at position, the order in which an answer names brands. An LLM tracker also checks whether you appear at all, the tone of each mention and the pages the model cites. Placton reports all of them, with a competitor ranking next to yours.
What does an LLM visibility tracker show that asking ChatGPT myself does not?
A single answer is a sample of one: ask again and the brands and their order change. A tracker sends the same prompts on a schedule, keeps every answer and turns them into a visibility score per model, your average position, the pages cited and your rivals’ numbers, so a trend can be told apart from noise.
What are LLM SEO tools, and is Placton one?
The name covers two kinds of product. Some use a language model to write content or group keywords for search engines. Others do SEO for LLMs: they check whether ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and other models can read your site and whether they mention you. Placton is an LLM SEO tool of the second kind; it audits and tracks, and leaves the writing to you.
How do you do SEO for LLMs?
Let AI crawlers reach your pages, state the facts buyers ask about (prices, comparisons, who you serve) in plain text on your own site, and get onto the third-party pages the models already cite. Then run the same prompts for a few weeks and watch whether you start being named or cited. No tool can guarantee that a model will recommend you.
Which LLMs does Placton track?
ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Perplexity and Grok, on every plan and in the free trial. It does not track the Gemini app, Google AI Mode, Microsoft Copilot, Meta AI, Llama, DeepSeek or Mistral, and you cannot add other models.
Does Placton measure what a model learned in training?
No. Placton asks every model with live web search on, so each answer reflects the pages the model found that day. What a model says from training alone only changes when a new version ships, so it says little about the work you did this month.
Why does each LLM give a different answer to the same prompt?
Each one runs its own searches and writes its own summary. ChatGPT uses its own web search, Google AI Overviews are built on Google’s results, Perplexity has its own search engine, and Claude and Grok use a web search tool Placton connects. That is why Placton reports every model separately as well as together.
How often does Placton check each LLM?
Two models daily and three weekly on paid plans: ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews every day, Claude, Perplexity and Grok once a week. In Venezuela and Puerto Rico, where chatgpt.com cannot be read, ChatGPT is asked weekly through its API.
In the 7-day trial, all five answer on day one; after that, ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews run daily while you keep visiting your dashboard.
Do LLM trackers read the app or the API?
It depends on the tool and on the model. Placton reads ChatGPT on chatgpt.com and Google AI Overviews on real Google results, and asks Claude, Perplexity and Grok through their APIs with web search on. Our GEO monitoring guide lists what other tools say about their own method.
Can I track LLM answers in other countries and languages?
Yes. Every model is asked in your workspace’s country and language, chosen from 40 countries and 7 languages. Each workspace measures one country and one language, so several markets need one workspace each.
Is there a free plan?
No, there is a 7-day free trial without a card, with up to 10 prompts on all five models and the 18-point site audit. After the trial, plans start at $59 a month.
Can I export the answers or reach them through an API?
No. There are no CSV or PDF exports, no API and no integrations: every answer stays in the dashboard in full, with its cited pages, and paid plans get a weekly email that sums up what changed.
